I have now replaced 2 radiators and 3 thermostats since obtaining dad's truck. Next step might be removing the radiator. We are trying flushes with limited success. Manages engine temperature, prevents freezing and protects the engine from corrosion. A radiator shop has said that can happen if air gets into the system. The truck overheats and I have to pull off and let it cool down before I continue to travel. Now once again after another 3 years I am running into the same issue.

After another year or two the problem was back in full force. A mechanic then suggested I replace the radiator, which I did. That worked for a while, but the problems worsened. (Great post btw) Ive since discovered horrible sludge lining the radiator but the coolant itself isnt milky and I. Finally, out of desperation, I took it to a mechanic. Looking into a bad vacuum leak led me here. As time progressed, the problem continued to worsen, until the vehicle would severely overheat. From time to time, it would overheat, then apparently temporarily correct itself. In 2001, my father passed away and I inherited this vehicle. The video goes into plenty of detail on DexCool, and talks about some of the issues the coolant was connected to, specifically in the area of gasket failures.
